Red Cross Water Safety Instructor 16 years and older
LSS Swim Instructor The Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Course focuses on preparing the instructor to teach and evaluate basic swim strokes and related skills. Swim Instructor candidates acquire proven teaching methods and a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques. Swim Instructors are certified to teach and evaluate all levels of the Lifesaving Society Swim Program: Parent & Tot, Preschool, Swimmer, and Adult Swimmer Prerequisites: 16 years of age; current Bronze Cross (or higher) certification. Course length: approximately 20 hours classroom and water time (often 40 hours when combined with the Lifesaving Instructor course). Reference materials required: Canadian Lifesaving Manual and Swim Instructor Pac. Lifesaving Instructor The Lifesaving Instructor Course prepares instructors to teach the Canadian Swim Patrol, Bronze medal awards, and Emergency First Aid. Lifesaving Instructors may evaluate and certify candidates in the Swim Patrol, Bronze Star, Emergency First Aid, and Lifesaving Fitness Awards. Prerequisites: 16 years of age; current Bronze Cross (or higher) certification. Course length: approximately 20 hours classroom and water time (often 40 hours when combined with the Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Course or the instructor courses of other agencies). Reference materials required: Canadian Lifesaving Manual and Lifesaving Instructor Pac.
